Valparaiso adopts ‘Beacons’ as new nickname

Beginning the 2021-22 academic year, Valparaiso University’s athletic teams will be known as the ‘Beacons’ rather than the ‘Crusaders.’ The school shed its old nickname after saying it had been embraced by hate groups, like the KKK.
